Our Shared Public Commitment

We, the undersigned members of the Walla Walla Partnership for Community Safety, are a partnership of concerned citizens coordinating our thoughts and actions and united in our commitment to keep Walla Walla safe for all.
Our Purpose is to create a lawful, coordinated, nonviolent and unified effort that, in collaboration with community partners, strengthens public safety, reduces fear, protects immigrant families, ensures equitable access to services for our immigrant neighbors and communities of color, and keeps Walla Walla's businesses and community functioning smoothly.
OUR SHARED FOUNDATION
WE BELIEVE…
WE BELIEVEin building a coalition that includes and respects diverse voices and lived experiences across the Walla Walla Valley.
WE BELIEVEin nonviolence, de-escalation, and collaborative problem-solving as essential practices for community safety and fear reduction.
WE BELIEVEin the value of local law enforcement and in supporting their safety and well-being as they work to protect our community.
WE BELIEVEin upholding constitutional and statutory protections for all residents of the Walla Walla Valley.
WE BELIEVEthat local law enforcement's role is public safety and not federal immigration enforcement.
WE BELIEVEin immigration enforcement that upholds due process, transparency, and humane treatment.
WE BELIEVEin clear, accurate, and accessible communication that promotes safety, reduces confusion, and helps residents understand their rights and available resources.
WE BELIEVEin upholding the lawful right to observe and document enforcement activities.
WE BELIEVEthat trust and respect between residents and institutions — such as police, schools, employers, health providers, and faith communities — are essential to a safe and thriving community.
WE BELIEVEthat immigration status should not be a barrier to reporting crimes or seeking emergency help nor a barrier to receiving services from schools, fire departments, or health services.
WE BELIEVEthat community safety includes every person here, and that we all deserve dignity, a sense of value and belonging, and the ability to participate meaningfully in community life.
WE BELIEVEthat our region's economy is stronger with the skills and contributions of immigrant workers, and that providing fair, accessible pathways to work permits or legal status strengthens families, businesses, and community safety.
We publish this commitment so our community knows that local leaders are paying attention, working together, and prepared to lead responsibly.
